meh. While it may or may not happen soon in the portables, I really would like to see at least the option sometime next year to get an AMD 4x4 based Mac Pro instead of Intel's pseudo quad-core...
http://www.wired.com/news/technology/computers/0,72126-0.html?tw=wn_index_5
I say AMD-based macs will definitely happen. I also say that Apple will not abandon Intel. They will merely offer various machines with your choice based on chips from the two vendors or perhaps some models that use chips from only on of the two vendors while other models let you choose, just as pretty much every single PC maker does these days. All this panic about "Apple wouldn't abandon Intel already", etc. is just silliness. Nobody says they can only work with Intel OR AMD but not both. Working with both is good for everyone as it keeps both suppliers on their toes and more eager to please. Why do you think Hugh Hefner keeps three girfriends these days? ;)

I been a browser of this forum for years, but never posted many threads, Picked up My black 16g wi-fi iPad 2 on launch day at Best Buy. The store was chaos, and it turned out to be a very lucky day. I told the stoner at the register I wanted to pay some of the balance in cash and the rest with my credit card. He counted the cash I gave him which was $230.00 looked dumbfounded for a moment, printed out a receipt and handed me my bag, followed by are we cool? I said yes, walked out and could not believe he never asked for the remaining balance. Walked out with a brand new ipad for 230.00 Wow!! Now normally I'm honest about things in that nature, but I have been screwed by Best Buy so many times I looked at it as being payback. Picked up a green smart cover incase sleeve and a STM micro ipad carry on sling pack, an excellent iPad combo. Yes, there are some minor issues with a little light bleed but no device is perfect, and it's not going to last 5 years. Instead of looking for imperfections and little micro scratches in the aluminum people should have fun and enjoy the device. Hope everyone is enjoying their iPad 2, I know I am
That really isn't anything to brag about.. If I saw that this happened I would make sure I paid in full and if I realized I only paid I would go back and make sure I paid. I don't want someone to get fired just because I got a few hundred dollars off without bringing it to his and his managers attention.. To me that is pretty much stealing..

in reality though, the government is deeply involved in licensing and regulating the practice of medicine. It does so to protect the public from harm by quacks, malpractice, fraud and criminal behavior.
And when it comes to hot button issues, abortion as an example, state governments do indeed tell doctors they have to say and do certain things.

Show me another phone that can drop calls from just the position of one finger. Nokia have their problems at the moment, but their reception has always been rock solid.
As for people being surprised at Apple's childishness, have you forgotten about the douchetastic "I'm a Mac campaign".

The chart topping hip hop rapper star who used a network hurricane fundraiser to charge "George Bush doesn't care about black people" was loudly and lustily booed during last night's NFL kickoff show.
The appearance of Kanye West, who was beamed into the Boston stadium via remote from Los Angeles, received a strongly negative response from the crowd.
"The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number," reports the BOSTON GLOBE.
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash9nfl.htm
That's so sad. Kanye stood up and put himself on the line by expressing something that needed to be said. America "the land of the free, say whatever you want, unless it upsets people" Kanye West has made himself a hero to all the people that were stranded on their rooftops, by directly challenging the administration, in a way that was blatant and obvious. No beating around the BUSH "He doesn't care about any of YOU" Bush didn't cut his vacation short for a few days into the tradgedy, Personally I think Bush is the anti-Christ and I am so glad that I got the hell out of the States and moved (right after he got re elected)
Those football fans are pathetic, If all those fans had the balls to do what Kanye did.....
it's a sad day to be an NFL fan. too bad i am one of them, but I would have been applauding as loud as I could.

It used to be worse when we had to wait for Motorola/IBM to produce enough chips, there were almost always delays in production because of yield issues or something else.
yeah that's true, but now what's the excuse? the processors are out now!

DRM should be unified - one DRM standard for ALL devices.
While I'm no great fan of DRM, this makes about as much sense as making all home, car and office locks use the same key. And making files DRM'd under one system transferable to a different DRM (what France was attempting) simply means that no DRM will be stronger than the weakest.
Like it are not, if we want to buy legit music, we've got to have a fairly effective DRM or those who own music have no incentive to release it. Would any of us leave a brand-new MacBook Pro unattended on a park bench while we went into a store? Well, these people have far more invested in their music than we have in our computers.
In short, we shouldn't demand of others different standards than those we live by ourselves.

Good point. I was a cashier at Powell's Books many years ago. If my till had been that much short I would have been out on my rear end before the day was over.
As others have said, good luck on the karma side, OP. You're going to need it.

The GOP is self-destructing at the worst possible time for future prospects in their party for 2012.
In a few months, GOP candidates will be starting their campaigns and the GOP today has just given individual candidates reasons to finger point at each other in what will probably be some vicious primaries.
And we all know how that will go. At least us liberals can fight like cats and dogs in the democratic, green, and left-leaning parties and make up in time for the election, but GOP primary opponents have traditionally held grudges against each other for life.
I don't know if establishment republicans will try and blame tea party republicans for the meltdown or vice versa, but without a unified front, the GOP is sunk nationwide for 2012.
After this set of debacles, it will be pretty easy to see the GOP does not have its nations interests at stake.

Looks good to me. My 3GS is still a workhorse (although the home button is getting mushy), but the one thing I want out of my next iPhone is a larger screen. I think 4" is overkill, especially if they have to make the phone itself much bigger. I've been hoping for a 3.7" screen for a while, so I hope these rumors are true.

Nowhere in the thread does the OP say that the cashier knew that he hadn't collected enough money. On the other hand, the OP is quite clear that he knew that he hadn't paid enough.
If you read his first post it says, the cashier counted the $230 looked dumb founded and printed the receipt and then asked " are we cool"...
Sorry but the cashier KNEW he hadn't collected all the money... He's the last person in line to make sure the product goes out the door and is paid in full..
Sorry it all on the cashier on this one..

I swear guys: I'm pretty sure most of the people dropping calls are only dropping calls because of the proximity sensor issues.
Next time you drop a call, check to see if it says "Call Failure" on the screen. If it doesn't, it's probably the sensor. (I'm talking to a wall, I'm surebut if one person discovers the real problem, I'll be happy
If it does say call failure, take it to Apple and they'll give you a new one. Simple. (:

Good ideas never die, they just get pulled from OS releases.

Indeed, not bashing MS, but they completely over promised "longhorn" and under-delivered when Vista was released. I think they learned their lesson and provide features that can actually be added in the time frame.
With the latest two releases (SL & Lion) apple isn't really promising too many features so it would be very disappointing to get one pulled.
As for the list, it looks very encouraging and exciting. win8 is still a ways off, but I hope to get a beta when its available.

Lyra, your tone is condescending. Calling Scandinavian laws "perverted" tells us that you're single minded to begin with and that your points can't be taken seriously.
I'll still address the point you make about the size of the Scandinavian market. The total population of the Scandinavian countries are 18.9 million. The total population of the USA is 296 million. The size of the Scandinavian market is only 6.4% of the size of the US market, but if Apple pulls out it's still lost income, potentially up to a couple of percent of what Apple makes in the US if you count loss of sales of music and the domino effect that will cause loss of sales of iPods and Macs.
Of course Apple can survive without the Scandinavian market, but why give up potential profit for nothing except stubbornness?
It is in your right to feel the word "PERVERTED" is condescending, however you seem to be missing the point. And furthermore, when your country gives Apple a bad rep, just cause you have a law that benefits your greedy idea of harming international companies and getting some money out of them, in this certain case, it happens to be Apple. Were you this engaged to do something when MS broke the law? The international law?
The fact of the matter is that Scandinavia simply isn't worth this...
You call it stubbornness when you talk about opening the DRM, which shows you, to be completely delusional when it comest to understanding this matter.
As one of the posters here mentioned, it would be like unifying the keys to everything you own and hoping no one breaks in, or steals anything from you.
Do you think ALL those companies would have joined iTunes, if Apple didn't have a good and pretty solid security to present them with? Ultimately it is all about making sure that the items you buy from them are safe and has a copy protection that insures the record labels that they can trust this format.
So who are you to go up against a phenomenon like iTunes, and these major companies? Do you honestly believe that Apple is the only one who is pushing DRM?
Try to do something productive instead and fight FOR and not against Apple... If you want iTunes, you have to adjust your selves to their format. It is idiotic to think that because I don't agree with certain companies and how they make their products, I can actually make a difference. Scandinavia doesn't have an impact on anything, you won't be able to change anything.
It is like someone disagreeing that the off button on SONY TVs remote is on the right side and not the left... If you can adjust and live with all the things other companies do, then why can't you with Apple? No one is forcing you to use iTunes... Better yet, if you don't like it buy the SONY, knock off of the iPods...
People whining about this simply don't see what is behind all of this. It is like moaning about DVD regional Codes, or copy protection on DVDs in general. Why don't you write to Panasonic or Pioneer and tell them, that you don't like and would fine them for not allowing you to switch regional codes on your DVD burner/player.
You can tolerate other companies, yet you cannot understand why iTunes HAS to work this way.
Your post indicates you have an issue with the size of your country. It indicates a certain insecurity, when you actually want to make justify your views on how many people live in Scandinavia and how many there are in New York alone. We are not talking about the 296 million in the entire USA. Canada is excluded in those numbers.
Why are you people so ungrateful? Why can't you just enjoy what Apple is giving you? Would you rather pirate songs?
Your laws ARE perverted (meaning they are not fair and serve only greed).
Just like our laws are perverted in many of our states, yours in your tiny country has a worse effect. After all, you still don't matter in the grand scheme of things...
And sooner or later, Apple will leave you, then you won't be able to buy anything from iTunes...
Is that what you want? Then why don't you just vote on it? If it matters so much to you?
Don't be so naive and think you have any influence over this... You are not just going up against Apple, but the entire band of companies who are backing Apple in this. Try do go up against them... It is as I said, you cannot change the power on/off buttons placement on the remote-control... Or any other silly thing people have a problem with...
Apart from the conclusion... what do you think is just "kidding"?
Oh I don't know, just about everything? It is this insecurity thing again isn't it?
The fewer the people in a nation, the easier it is to say they are the best or the worst in certain things. Get it?

It's Apple's philosophy. It comes down to building priorities around it and executing on them.
Yes, it's Apples highly erratic priorities that are puzzling.
Their extreme hypocrisy and superiority complex that causes them to go into denial in so many cases.
They stonewall and refuse to operate in a candid & open way with customers. Instead they practice silently hiding as many of their issues as possible.
Apples one true area of brilliance is their masterful art of marketing. In the finest example of typical American deceptive advertising, Apple describes their products as "magical & revolutionary".
What a crock.
They can't or won't even build a cool running MBP, after years on the market.
